Now Apple is switching to ARM and I wouldn't be too shocked if Microsoft and Sony eventually follow Nintendo's lead. Sony was developing a CD based system/add-on for Nintendo. When Nintendo scrapped the idea Sony used the tech to make it their own system. The similarity to Nintendo is probably largely based on the fact it was originally designed for them.

The Statistical Research Group (SRG) at Columbia University, which Wald was a part of, examined the damage done to aircraft that had returned from missions and recommended adding armor to the areas that showed the least damage, based on his reasoning. This contradicted the US military's conclusions that the most-hit areas of the plane needed additional armor.
