My middle school science teacher once told a story about how when he was a little kid he was kind of fat and ran a marathon. He passed out and medics arrived to help him. Unfortunately it was so hot outside that him being on the hot pavement was painful so he was struggling and squirming trying to get up but the medics were like no you just blacked out and might have heat stroke you need to stay down. So they put a towel or something over him I guess to block the sun and kept him pressed on the floor. This was being filmed live on TV and his family was watching the entire time. So he mentioned how from their perspective they just saw him pass out and an ambulance arrive and throw a towel over him so his family thought he just dropped dead mid race. There was a case a few years back where the police held a guy on the hot pavement for like 5 min, he had to undergo skin graph surgeries, he showed pics of the aftermath. It was horrific. I will update later with the link. I work in a Phoenix Emergency department. It's very common this time of year for patients to come in with extensive 2nd-3rd degree burns if they spent any time in the ground outside. Even people who are down for just a minute or two will often have a few patches of second degree burns.
